Position Overview
The Lead Budtender ("Shift Lead") provides an exceptional experience for all customers and fellow team members while leading by example as a positive, customer-focused retail associate. Lead Budtenders set the standard for all Budtenders in product knowledge, customer service, and general can-do attitude.
In addition to the Budtender function, these individuals take on additional responsibilities in general store operations, inventory management, staff training, and store supervision. The Shift Lead supports store leadership in day-to-day operations — overseeing staff, ensuring compliance with state and local cannabis regulations, driving sales and profitability, and enhancing customer satisfaction and brand loyalty.
The Shift Lead may hold a state designation as manager on duty, key holder, or agent in charge, and will be responsible for coaching and training employees and resolving customer issues as needed. This role requires close collaboration with store leadership to drive results in a fast-paced environment while supporting the company's core values and culture.

- Perform and train the retail team on all retail tasks and responsibilities including customer intake, sales, inventory, and POS transactions.
- Provide in-the-moment coaching to employees and escalate concerns to store leadership in a timely manner.
- Ensure operational excellence by following SOPs, compliance regulations, and established internal processes; report any compliance issues or violations to store leadership promptly.
- Support all aspects of inventory management in compliance with local, state, and company regulations — including ensuring inventory movement is documented and supporting regular audits and month/quarter/year-end inventory processes.
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with receiving, tracking, and reconciling deliveries; lead inventory counts.
- Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies in collaboration with the General Manager.
- Support people leadership activities including onboarding, training, and performance management.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and share findings with store leadership.
- Manage and respond to escalated customer issues as needed.
